Drill #3: No Stride, Progressive Ball Size Self-Soft Toss Drill
The goal of this drill is to improve a hitter's hand-eye coordination, timing, and ability to make solid contact with different pitch sizes. By starting with a larger ball and gradually progressing to smaller balls, hitters are challenged to adjust their swing mechanics and timing to effectively make contact. This drill also helps to replicate the timing and mechanics of hitting a pitched ball while having complete control over the toss and can be used when a coach or partner is not available to assist with soft toss. It allows hitters to work on their fundamentals independently and refine their skills in a controlled environment.
This drill helps hitters, by eliminating the stride from the swing, rely more heavily on their timing to initiate the swing at the right moment while also working on hand-eye coordination. Also, it forces hitters to sharpen their hand-eye coordination as they learn to efficiently track the different size balls and connect the barrel of the bat with the moving ball. Over time, this improves their ability to judge pitch location and adjust their swing accordingly quickly and accurately.
